Volunteer
Truck Brigade
The Truck Brigade’s mission is to connect furniture donations with their new homes and is thriving thanks to a group of dedicated volunteers. Every Friday, these volunteers pick up donated items from residences and businesses around the Omaha Metro and take them to Youth Mart. They then deliver items from Youth Mart to young adults who are working towards making their own independent living space.
As the name suggests, volunteers use not only their own trucks, but in some cases, SUVs, vans or minivans.
Truck brigade volunteers not only deliver furniture and material goods to the young adult former foster youths, but also pick up large furniture donations from the community.
“The youth served by Truck Brigade are always so gracious and appreciative of the volunteers and thrilled to get their items to their home,” Adam said. “The volunteers are also filled with the joy of giving these young adults a hand and showing them they are cared for.”
Youth Mart
Youth Mart is a donation center for young adults 25 and under who have aged out of foster care, have foster care experience, or may be otherwise unconnected. Youth Mart carries household essentials including furniture, kitchen items, housewares, bedding, clothing, food, hygiene items, cleaning products, and children’s items/clothing up to size 5T. Young people shop with their case worker from one of our collaborative agencies for items to set up their home.
Mentoring
A mentoring program and further support that fosters independence.
Our Mission is to provide support through mentoring for Young Adults Former Foster Youth on their journey towards independence. As these young adults “age out” or turn 19, they begin to lose services and support available to them while trying to figure out how to live on their own and support themselves. The role of mentors is to provide additional support along that journey.
